Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik region, Croatia

Where to stay for a brilliant holiday in or near Dubrovnik

With so much to offer it's not hard to see why the whole region has become such a popular holiday destination for UK travellers, but with so many options on whereabouts to stay, here's a quick guide.

Near Dubrovnik Old Town - perfect if you see the trip as much as a city break as a beach break, there are several hotels within easy walking distance to the old town, with most being at the 5* end.

Lapad - it's a short bus or taxi ride into the old town from here, but the coastal scenery is stunning with a seaside promenade that connects several hotels to the main pedestrianised area of bars and restaurants. Beaches tend to be pebbly with very clear water.

Cavtat - around 20-30 minutes away from Dubrovnik Old Town, this is a delightful seaside resort with good connections by boat or bus to Dubrovnik.

As well as spending few days relaxing, it's great to head out on a boat trip to some of the nearby islands. Lokrum is just a short boat ride across the water from Dubrovnik, with great walks, shady spots and a couple of places to eat and drink. There's a botanical garden and even the ruins of a Benedictine Monastery to explore.

Other trips take you to islands further away such as wonderful Korcula (especially the old town), and many trips combine two or three different islands in the day.

Further away, there are day trips to Montenegro and Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
